PayPerPlay: The Next Generation of Intrusive Internet Marketing
By Paul • Dec 14th, 2007 • Category: News and Commentary, Top StoryThe touts coming from the Pay Per Play network is that voice ads cannot be ignored by surfers, thus provide exceptional branding value for advertisers. Not only is Pay Per Play perpetuating false claims from voice2page, they are truly showing a lack of effort in market research.
One of the largest outlets for web traffic today, second to search engines, is Social Media which requires a visual medium if you wish to advertise to the majority of social network traffic. As many users of social media use ad and java script blocking plugins for the Firefox browser. What this means to the advertiser is they will be charged for ad impressions that are not delivered from social network traffic.
With hits in the 10’s of thousands from popular social media networks if a story or article goes “popular” the advertiser will expect to realize a benefit that is never delivered. With the requirement of the majority of internet users for content to be relevant and dynamic a stale website with with lack of social media appeal search engines will be the only viable delivery source for this type of advertising or sites like myspace where over aggressive marketers are shown the door quite regularly.
No serious internet marketer is going to take the time to SEO a site for top search terms to deliver traffic to an advertising platform using offensive, intrusive advertising as a source of monetization it will offend surfers and cause them to bounce from the site. Taking away the real benefit of their SEO work and sites purpose of selling their own product, building a reader base or higher revenue affiliate conversions.
Click on the player below to hear what an alleged “actual advertiser” advertisement would sound like. The reason we picked this one is because it is for Taxicab Confessions 6 which was released in 1999 six years before Voice2Page or NetAudioAds was even formed. It has been confirmed that HBO has never purchased any advertising from Voice2Page, despite claims from Pay Per Play and NetAudioAds.
Screen shot below taken from www.sellingppp.com/index2.html
Affiliates with Voice2Page have never received any compensation from NetAudioAds and the program was deemed a bust by Larry Host and Sam Deeb with Voice2Page. Although not verified at this time, it is highly unlikely that there are any “real” advertisers on board and surly nowhere near the 66,000 claimed by PayPerPlay. If they already had the advertisers spending for these ad plays there would be no push to recruit a new batch of affiliates as there would probably be a waiting list.
There are some mainstream bloggers that are covering this launch. Shawn Collins has posted about it but has said that he is not getting on board with this in a recent podcast at WebmasterRadio.fm . and Ben Cook has also stated he would not support this at his blog due to some of the things we have mentioned here.
With the combination of manipulative claims, Voice2Page’s insincerity with prior affiliates and turning website visitors away with the automatic audio plays a snowball in hell has a better chance of surviving than this one replacing Google Adsense or living up to the claims made by PPP.

Hello webmaster…I Googled for internet fraud, but found your page about PayPerPlay: The Next Generation of Intrusive Internet Marketing | Scam Alert…and have to say thanks. nice read. Nelly Fertado
Hi Paul,
Nice article. I’m thinking same thing, and also- why have no control over noise pollution?
Though, just like pay-per-post, these will make a killing with plenty of the junk sites/blogs plaguing us out there -directory generator type- which are generated by the millions each year. It’s perfect for this type of sites, where people run away in under 8 seconds. audio is only 5… then they click an adsense ad- perfect match and good monetization! -no harm done for this type of site owners…
Unfortunately so, for the rest of us, who want to find quality when we surf the web, not useless adsense sites.
Thank Nelly and Curly,
Yes mass generated blogs and scraper sites will be the types of places that use this as a monetization platform. The good thing is they will had Google a “footprint” with the player code and may have to realize traffic only from their 2 tier search partner for traffic.
Then the traffic will die to nothing and what could of been a decent product if marketed differently goes into oblivion. Meaning that the product itself is cool and has practical applications but as a ad delivery source being hawked the way it is it turns it into spam and spam promotion to increase impression.
Advertisiers will run. Why do you think voxant stopped the “auto play” audio ads.
NetAudioAds was not the first ones to try this. The ones that have realized it was hurting more than it was helping!!
Merry Xmas..
Paul

Interesting,
With the pro and con of all advertising, I see this as no different that a TV commercial, we don’t want to see or hear them, but yet there they are, every couple minutes, so do like I do, turn off the volume, and for those who promote it on their sites, they get paid regardless, not bad if true.
Happy New Year,
Thanks Mike,
You are correct if it is viable. The deal is though it has been tried in the past on different platforms and since been canceled. It does not appear that voice2page has a back up plan if this fails and many of the claims they are making are false. Good luck with this if you are involved. They have taken a good product and are trying to prostitute it to make it crash and burn.
Also posting an affiliate link as a web address to Pay Per Play is troll like behavior and has been removed. If you would like to link to your real website please contact me and I will replace your link with that.
[...] different point of view. It is your right to know what others have in mind. You can read them here, here and there. How about the author himself? Since this is a pre-launch and I’m opened to new [...]
I’ve joined PPP as an affiliate and put the widget on my blog. So far it doesn’t do anything as ads won’t commence until Feb 08. This is clearly stated by PPP so I don’t see how this effort to launch a new advertising program can accurately be called a scam (a potential scam, maybe). Perhaps you’re just writing for visceral effect rather than accuracy?
PPP may well fail, in which case I’ll make no revenue from PPP and remove the widget from my blog in a couple of months. Worst case would be that I end up with my name, email and phone (obtained by PPP when I joined) sold to other marketers. But that info is all out in the public domain anyhow. I could also lose some readers who get pissed off with the 5 sec audio ads, but that would be no different from the handful of readers who spat the dummy when I put AdSense on my site and added a couple of sponsors in my sidebar. Some people just think that ANY advertising is obscene, and expect me to provide them with entertainment for free
If PPP does happen to work out, I may get some extra incremental revenue,
ps. I’d include an affiliate link to PPP for those that are interested, but you’d call that trolling and delete it (If anyone does want to join up, there’s a link on my blog). It’s funny though that when YOU write a flame post about a new start-up program it ISN’T trolling

Hmmmm….. It is not the program Pay Per Play. If your reading comprehension level is appropriate you will see that I have said that I think it is a poor product, as well as many others. The real issues as far as an affiliate program goes the ones that are handling the money have showed in the past they are not trustworthy in that respect.
I will wish you luck just as I have Charles Heflin. I really hope you make a million as well as all of the affiliates inside of the PPP. Grab the cash while you can. Don’t beleive all that you read and do some due diligence before spending alot of time on it.
However placing this type of advertising on a blog that you are trying to develop a readership at says to them that you do not value your readers and are more interested in making some fast nickels. Even Pay Per Play says blogs are probably not the best place to play “Adlets”
If someone really wants to join pay per play here is a non affiliate link for them to do so.

I guess we will just have to wait and see..one endorsment by John Chow, Or Daren and you guys will be knocking down your wifes to get the code added to your blogs..I put the facts together on a site if you want to read it you’ll se that many people will make lots of money from this and many will not…same as with google, traffic pays the bills no matter what means of marketing you decide works bst for your sites. No traffic no loot.. http://epayperplay.blogspot.com
Yes just watch to make sure that the ones handling the money do the right thing this time. Voice2Page has already destroyed one affiliate program. If this does not make them viable it will be a sad day because they will have successfully destroyed a product that has many uses.
I don’t see how can someone be destroyed by joining this site.If they won’t pay we’ll just remove their code from our web pages within a month.Just give them a try!

No I do not see how you could be destroyed by joining it and them not paying either.
Now if you have a large list and recommended this product and they don’t pay you have destroyed the only thing you could salvage and that is your CREDIBILITY.
Hers a summery of whats going on with my pay per play personal acount

Interesting,
Credibility? Yes, I suppose if one was selling something, or promising something, ones credibility could be an issue, but since most are in a wait and see holding pattern until PayPerPlay goes live, I don’t think it is an issue of credibility at this early point.
As with all new advertising mediums, time will tell if they will be profitable or not, so I don’t personally feel my credibility is at risk anymore than when promoting any other product or service that is FREE to SEE. We all know that the same was being said about Google Adsense and Adwords when this new internet medium was first introduced, and no one thought it would work, but it did, at least for the first few years.
Like all new advertising mediums, there will be naysayers, but like with Adsense, I tried it, and I am glad I did for it made some decent money in the first couple years. Unfortunately, as wilh all advertising, it gets a little stale after a few years, or shall we say, saturated. I welcome any and all new mediums, not only as a business which advertises, but also as an advertiser, so I will be utilizing both sides of the PayPerPlay offering.
Good luck to all,
Since it doesn’t cost you a single dime to get in on the ‘new’ ground floor as a core member, you really don’t have anything to lose. The monetary rewards could be fantastic if this takes off as expected. They are even talking about Amber Alerts and weather warnings (geographical) being played which consumers would welcome. This is no time to sit on your hands - at least get signed up! Affiliate Link Removed

Well it’s February 24th and things that look too nice to be true just turned out to be just that. The system is not working, they are testing it, repairing it, whatever… This can’t be a serious thing. I gave it a try, but it’s enough (at least for me…)
It’s February 29 2008 now and funny things are popping up on their forum: http://sellppp.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1179&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
